“…Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” – Matt 5:16

When we strive for the same goal in a team, we complement not compete with one other. In the pursuit of worldly success people compete and compare with each other. Comparing will lead to coveting, and coveting will lead to complaining. Complaining is a sign of not trusting God and doubt about His provision in our life. Like the children of Israel they murmured a lot and in the end the whole generation was perished in the wilderness. They responded by fear not faith like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind and received nothing from the Lord. (Jas 1:6-7)

We need to commit to pursuit of excellence by comparing with ourselves instead. It takes a commitment because it is a life time pursuit of discovering and developing yourself for the purpose God has placed in your life. Each one of us has a unique purpose, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Ps 139:14) When we position ourselves correctly in a team to fulfill His purpose, we will shine before men to Him all the praise and Glory.

Knowing how God SHAPE us for His purpose will help to find our calling in a team. (1) Spiritual Gift – every child of God has the gifts from the Spirit. Let us discover, develop and display them. (2) Heart – it is your passion that drives to excel in your calling. Don’t put off that fire within you. (3) Ability – the natural ability God has given to accomplish the task. He never calls a duck to climb a tree and a monkey to swim. (4) Personality – knowing your temperament will help you to find the position that suits you. (5) Experience – our calling is confirmed by your experience that moves you from glory to glory.

Let’s pray.

Lord, let us arise and shine for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon us as we respond to your calling. Amen.

Before we go, take a look at the questionnaire below:

1. Why is it said that people tend to fall into comparison and competition when pursuing worldly success? How do these comparisons and competitions lead to a mindset of greed and complaint?

2. Why is it said that comparison and complaint reflect a lack of faith in God?

3. Reflect on how to find your position and calling within the team through your spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, personality, and experiences.
